Introduction The CIWM Waste Awareness Certificate (WAC) has been designed for all employees who produce waste or who have responsibilities for dealing with waste in companies, organisations, and authorities involved in a manufacturing, retail or service process. The aims of the course are to provide an introduction to waste management and to provide the knowledge, skills and understanding to improve the management of waste. The training is carried out by Approved Trainers attached to Registered Centres all under the quality control of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management. FAQ1 Is the Waste Awareness Certificate relevant to me? The aims of the course are to provide an introduction to waste management and to provide the knowledge, skills and understanding to improve the management of waste. FAQ4 Can the Waste Awareness Certificate be delivered in my Company? Delivering the Waste Awareness Certificate in-house is an ideal means of securing maximum benefit for your company and your employees. Because the course is very interactive all the discussion with the trainer will be directly relevant to your company. Please contact the Centre direct and we will be pleased to discuss your requirements. FAQ5 Why should my employees be trained? Everyone who deals with waste has responsibilities under the law known has the Duty of Care and it is important that they all understand this. However, the course could also lead to real savings in disposal costs and will help to keep employees safe. You will also be making a worthwhile contribution to improving the environment. The estimated time to deliver the course and carry out the test is about five hours. The course is very interactive and so the precise length depends on the amount of discussion generated by the candidates. FAQ7 What will the course cost? The cost of the course is approximately £120 per candidate (for in house courses please contact the Centre). FAQ8 Will I have to take a test to get my certificate? At the end of the course there is short multi-choice question test. There are 20 questions and candidates have to score 14 correct answers to pass and gain a Waste Awareness Certificate. For candidates who do not wish to take the test or who fail to score the required number of correct answers a certificate of attendance will be provided. FAQ9 Are the Waste Awareness Certificates time-limited? Such are the developments in waste management practice and legislation that the Waste Awareness Certificates are valid for a period of 5 years. FAQ10 Can I take the Waste Awareness certificate on-line? At the present time it is not possible to take the Waste Awareness Certificate on-line. This may be possible in the future but there are no specific plans or timetable just now. FAQ11 Are there any other benefits of holding Waste Awareness Certificates? Both Government and the Environment Agencies are supporting the scheme and holding a certificate will be seen as a positive factor in any dealings with the regulatory authorities. |
